Works have commenced on the $20 million project Horizon on Scarborough on the corner of Brighton Road and West Coast Highway, with appointed construction company JAXON taking control of the iconic site at the end of last month.
Horizon on Scarborough Beach is owned by GM Property Group (GMPG) and will have an 18-month construction period to construct 39 apartments as well as short stay hotel accommodation, and ground floor commercial suites.
On site to celebrate this milestone were representatives from JAXON, GMPG as well as Hon Liza Harvey MLA –Deputy Premier of WA and the local member of Scarborough.
The Deputy Premier met and chatted with those who were involved in the project, including the female Project Manager of Horizon at Scarborough Beach, Sarah Poggioli from JAXON. She then proudly participated in the traditional ‘sod turning’ with the construction and development team.
Ms Harvey has previously announced aspects of the Scarborough foreshore redevelopment, currently underway, that has a State Government contribution of $48 million including foreshore works, the creation of Sunset Hill, a new home for Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club and a number of other new amenities for residents and visitors alike.
She was thrilled to be present at another exciting Scarborough development that will further entice visitors and businesses to the area.
‘This location has a rich history especially the backpackers accommodation that occupied the site for many years, and was even rebuilt following fire damage. With all the other activity and new facilities being created at Scarborough, Horizon at Scarborough will be the perfect entry point for the soon to be upgraded beach suburb’, Ms Harvey said.
‘It is also great to see a quality development being constructed by a quality builder from WA – and especially one that shows commitment and develops pathways for women in construction’, she said.
Horizon at Scarborough has been specifically designed to make the most of the close proximity to the beach, in particular the two heated lap and leisure pools, promenade, grandstand and kiosk that will be completed by summer 2018.
